About Beacon Tower Ruins
The beacon tower site is located in the north of Dunhuang City, Gansu Province. It is a Great Wall pass and barrier beacon site in the Han Dynasty. It was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 1988. The ruins extend along the south bank of the Shule River. The existing fortress walls are mostly made of rammed earth and are mainly composed of Maquanwan beacons. As an important military defense facility in ancient times, the beacon tower was also called a beacon, a beacon, and a smoke pier. It was named after the wolf dung used as fuel. When encountering an enemy, it would smoke during the day and light a fire at night to convey messages. Slips unearthed from the Maquanwan Fengsui Station record the military garrison activities at Yumen Pass. After 1979, the Gansu Provincial Cultural Relics Team unearthed 1,221 slips, silk fabrics, linen paper and other relics here.
