About Guangji Gate
Guangji Gate, formerly known as "Guangji Tower", also known as "Hanjiang Tower", commonly known as "Dongmen Tower" among the people, is located in Dongmen Street, Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province. It was built in the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370). It is the largest gate building among the seven gates of the ancient city of Chaozhou in the Ming Dynasty. It is not only the main symbol of Chaozhou's famous city, but also an important gate of Beidi City Embankment. The building is a palace-style three-storey attic with a roof top. Its original shape is seven rooms wide and five rooms deep. Plaques and couplets inscribed by celebrities from past dynasties are hung on the first to third floors. The roof is made of blue tiles and glazed components, with a total height of 24.43 meters. The tower has been repaired many times.
