About Putuoyan
Putuoyan Nunnery, commonly known as "Putuoyan" or "Hutouyan", is located to the northwest of Jixin Island, north of Huicheng, Huilai County, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, about 10 kilometers away from Huilai County. Its construction can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. Guyan was created in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Southern Song Dynasty, and became famous in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is said that the eminent monk Dadian of the Tang Dynasty once practiced and planted hundreds of lychees here. Fang Yuanshun, the "Xuanjiao Gong" of the Southern Song Dynasty, revived the rock. On October 25, 1986, it was approved by the Leading Group of the County Party Committee to Implement the United Front Policy as one of the Buddhist activity sites. In August 1988, it was issued a license by the County Religious Affairs Bureau and opened to the public.
