About octagonal building
The former residence of Comrade Mao Zedong is located in Maoping Village, Maoping Township, Jinggangshan City, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province. It is a cantilevered civil structure building in the Qing Dynasty. It is named after the octagonal skylight on the second floor. It covers an area of 143.69 square meters. In 1961, it was listed as one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. This building was originally the residence of local Chinese medicine doctor Xie Chixiang. From October 1927 to January 1929, Mao Zedong lived and worked here. With the help of a single-wick oil lamp, he completed "Why Can China's Red Regime Exist?" "The two works "The Struggle in Jinggangshan" systematically proposed the idea of "armed separatism of workers and peasants" and explored the revolutionary path of encircling the cities from the countryside.
