About Xingxian Palace

Xingxian Palace is a Taoist temple located at the intersection of Huangyan Road and Zhonghua Road in Gulangyu Island, Xiamen. It was built in the late Ming Dynasty and is recorded in the "Xiamen Chronicles" in the 12th year of Daoguang's reign in the Qing Dynasty. It was originally worshiped as the main god by Emperor Xietian (Guan Yu). In the eighth year of Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1858), the wealthy businessman Huang Feihuai brought back the statue of Emperor Baosheng from Wenzhou, Zhejiang, and expanded it into a second-entry temple. The front hall was dedicated to Emperor Baosheng, the back hall was dedicated to Guan Yu, and a stage was built. During the Republic of China, the palace became a pilgrimage center for believers in Nanyang and Taiwan. In 1966, the statue was destroyed and the temple was taken over by the government.
