About North Tower of Yunju Temple
The North Tower of Yunju Temple, also known as the "Red Tower", is located in Yunju Temple, Fangshan District, Beijing. It is the landmark building of Yunju Temple. It was built in the eighth year of Tianqing (1118) or the Chongxi period (1032-1055) of the Liao Dynasty. The base may have been built in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and the tower body has the style of the Liao Dynasty. The tower is about 30.46 meters high and adopts a pavilion-style and bowl-shaped combination structure. It is the only existing bell and drum tower style tower in my country. There is a Tang Dynasty stone pagoda at each corner. Among them, the stone pagoda built in the second year of Jingyun (711) is the oldest pagoda in Beijing. In 1961, it was announced by the State Council as one of the first batch of nationally protected cultural relics. It was repaired in 1989 and 2012.
