About Wood Carving Building

Lucun Wood Carving Building is located in Pheasant Village, Hongcun Town, Yixian County, Anhui Province. It is an ancient Huizhou residential complex built by Huizhou merchant Lu Bangxie for 20 years during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. It consists of seven houses including Zhicheng Hall, Siji Hall, and Glass Hall. There are 56 ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The building complex is famous for its mixed carving, line carving, hidden carving and other techniques. The wood carving themes cover scenes such as the story of the Three Kingdoms and the Hundred Sons celebrating the Lantern Festival. The door skirt panels have as many as six or seven layers of carvings, and are known as the "First Floor of Chinese Wood Sculpture". The ancestors of the Lu family moved to Pheasant Mountain in the late Southern Tang Dynasty.
