About echo wall
The Echo Wall is the circular wall of the Imperial Vault of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. It was built in the ninth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1530). The wall is 3.72 meters high, 0.9 meters thick, 61.5 meters in diameter, and 193.2 meters in circumference. It is built with ground bricks and joints. The top of the wall is covered with blue glazed tiles, and the wall surface is smooth and flat. The building is famous for its unique acoustic phenomenon. Two people are separated in the east and west side halls and talk softly against the wall. The sound waves can be reflected along the smooth wall and spread to one or two hundred meters away. The clarity of the conversation and the continuity of the sound create a mysterious atmosphere of "reception between heaven and man".
