About yanggongdi
Yang Gong causeway is located to the west of West Lake in Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is a long causeway running from north to south. It was first built in the third year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1508). Yanggong Causeway is one of the "Three West Lake Causeways" along with Bai Causeway and Su Causeway. It is also the only West Lake Causeway accessible to cars. It was named after Yang Mengying presided over the excavation. In the third year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1508), Yang Mengying, the magistrate of Hangzhou, used silt and grass to build Yanggong Embankment in Xili Lake when dredging the West Lake, and built six bridges on the embankment. After the Qing Dynasty, the Lihu Lake gradually became silted up and the Yangdi was lost. In 2003, the West Lake Comprehensive Protection Project restored Yanggong Embankment and Six Bridges.
