About Stuart's former residence

Leighton Stuart's former residence is located at No. 1-3, Jesus Hall Lane, Tianshui Street, Gongshu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is the place where Leighton Stuart, the former U.S. Ambassador to China, was born and grew up. It was built by his father, John Stuart, after he came to Hangzhou to preach in 1876, the second year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty. Stuart's former residence is a two-story building that combines Chinese and Western styles. There are three buildings side by side. There is a garden next to the house. The total area is 4138.5 square meters and the construction area is 731.95 square meters. There is only one building left, covering an area of 236 square meters and a construction area of 473 square meters. It is 17.78 meters wide and 13.30 meters deep.
