About Yuanjiazhai

Yuanjiazhaizi is located in Yuanjiajie Village, the core scenic area of Wulingyuan, Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. It is the only existing private historical building in the Yuanjiajie Scenic Area. It was originally the residence of a local landlord. The village completely retains the traditional architectural shape of the Tujia people. The eaves of the village gate are upturned, with a plaque reading "Yuanjia Village" across the middle. Red lanterns are hung on both sides, and crops such as corn and pepper are hung. The Tujia historical relics, daily utensils and self-defense weapons are displayed inside, as well as national totem symbols with tigers and apes as the core. In 2006, 15 villagers in Zhongping implemented building facade renovation as a pilot project, transforming it into a farming culture and folk customs display attraction without changing the properties of the houses.
