About Qutang Pass

Qutang Pass, also known as Kuimen, is the ancient name of the pass and is the west gate of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. The former site is located at the west entrance of Qutang Gorge in the east of Fengjie County, Chongqing City. It was an important pass from the east to Shu in ancient times. Its history can be traced back to the Warring States Period, and it has always been a battleground for military strategists. Kuimen is the fifth set of 10 Yuan RMB background patterns. There are high mountains on both sides of the strait and Lingjiang River. Because of the rough water, it is known as "Kuimen is the most powerful place in the world". During the Warring States Period, Bachu set up a defending pass (Jiangguan) here. In the ninth year of Jianwu (33rd year) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Gongsun Shu sent a city to build a city at the mouth of Qutang Gorge.
