About Caomen
Caomen, located in Kaifeng City, Henan Province, is a city gate to the north of the east wall of Kaifeng City Wall. It was named because it leads directly to ancient Caozhou. It is now one of the main gateways for east-west transportation in Kaifeng City. Caomen was built in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,300 years. Its name has changed many times in the past dynasties. It was called Jianyang Gate in the Later Liang Dynasty, Yingchun Gate in the Later Jin Dynasty, Zhenghe Gate in the Later Zhou Dynasty, Wangchun Gate in the Song Dynasty, Renhe Gate in the Ming Dynasty, and Pingping Gate in the Republic of China. In the Ming Dynasty, Caomen built a city tower, a moon city and a triple gate, with a "Liao Xiang" plaque hanging inside, and water gates in the north and south. In 1958, its city gate tower, city gate cave and urn were demolished.
