About Jiuxi smoke tree
Jiuxi Smoke Tree is one of the ten new scenic spots of West Lake in Hangzhou. It is located under the Jiguan Ridge on the west side of the West Lake. It is composed of two major water systems, Jiuxi and Shibajian. It originates from the Lion Peak of Longjing and Yangmeiling of Wengjiashan. It joins the water of Jiuwu along the way to form a 7-kilometer stream, which finally flows into the Qiantang River. The scenic spot is famous for its landscape of intertwined streams, verdant tea gardens, and "smoky trees" shrouded in clouds. Yu Yue in the Qing Dynasty described its landforms as "overlapping mountains and winding roads". Li Siguang once discovered the remains of Quaternary glaciers here. This landscape took shape in the Southern Song Dynasty, and many literati in the Ming and Qing Dynasties wrote about it.
