About Qiantang No. 1 Well
Qiantang No. 1 Well, also known as "Big Well", "Hanquan" and "Wushan Well", was originally named "Wushan No. 1 Spring". It is located at No. 22, Dajing Lane, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It was an ancient well dug by Deshao, a master of the Wuyue Kingdom in the Five Dynasties. It is known as "the first" because it has served for more than a thousand years and occupied an important position and influence in the early water supply system of Hangzhou city. The first well of Qiantang faces east and west, and the overall layout is in the shape of a "concave". There are five wells in the middle of the courtyard, and there is a boundary monument engraved on the side as "ancient big well wall boundary". When it was first dug, it was four feet in circumference and large in scale, with no cover at the wellhead.
