About Ningbo Drum Tower

Ningbo Drum Tower is located on the north side of the Zhenming intersection of Zhongshan West Road, Haishu District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. It was built in the first year of Changqing of the Tang Dynasty (821). It is a landmark building that established Ningbo as a state and established the city. It is now the only remaining ancient city tower site in Ningbo and one of the ancient buildings under national cultural relics protection. The building has gone through name changes such as Wanghaimen Gate in the Later Liang Dynasty and Fengguo Military Building in the Song Dynasty. In the eighth year of Qingli reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty (1048), Wang Anshi, the magistrate of Yinxian County, wrote the "New Engraving Inscription" for it, which was a metaphor for the concept of diligent government.
