About Ninglu Fortress

Ninglu Fort, formerly known as Ninglu Fort, is located in Zuoyun County, Shanxi Province. It was the Great Wall Fort of Datong Town in the Ming Dynasty. It was first built in the 21st year of Jiajing (1542) and reinforced with bricks in the first year of Wanli (1573). The fortress has a circumference of 1.35 kilometers and a south gate. The garrison once numbered 607, guarding 18 side piers. Its name "毩" refers to the court's name for the Mongolian army, and "Ning" means stability on the border. It was renamed Ninglu Fort in the seventh year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty. The fort is located at the northern foot of Motian Ridge, guarding the main road of Ninglukou Valley. The main body of the existing city wall and the gaps have been destroyed. Surrounding it is the Zhenning Tower, a hollow enemy tower with a height of 17 meters.
