About Xuankong Temple 14
Xuankong Temple, originally known as Xuan Kong Ge, is located 4 kilometers southeast of Hengshan’s Ciyao Gorge (also known as Jinlong Gorge) in Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi Province, on the western side of Cuiping Peak. It is a temple complex that integrates Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Situated approximately 60 meters above ground level, the temple covers an area of 472 square meters, with a platform in front of the temple spanning 726 square meters, covering a total area of about 921 square meters. The temple’s cultural heritage protection zone covers a total area of roughly 8.83 hectares. Xuankong Temple was founded in the 15th year of Taihe during the Northern Wei Dynasty (491 AD), and it has been renovated throughout successive dynasties.
