About Weilu Fortress
Weilu Fort is located in the northeast of Zuoyun County, Shanxi Province, about 1 km north of the Ming Great Wall. It was an important pass in Datong Town in the Ming Dynasty and was formerly known as Weilu Fort. It was first built in the 22nd year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1543), and the city walls were covered with bricks in the first year of Wanli (1573). The fort wall is about 12.7 meters high and 1320 meters in circumference. It has an east gate and is connected to the east fort wall to build a related city. It has a unique structure, consisting of two small towns spliced together in the shape of "hu". The locals call it "Ba Diaozi Fort". It was a military border fortress in the Ming Dynasty. After it was renamed Weilu Fort in the seventh year of Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1729), it gradually became a Mongolian and Han trade center.
