About Zhushan Academy
Zhushan Academy is located in Taohuaba, Xiongcun, Shexian County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. It was built in the 20th year of Qianlong's reign (1755) as a teaching place for the Cao clan of Xiongcun. The existing buildings of the academy are mainly original structures, covering an area of about 2,000 square meters, including Huizhou buildings such as the lecture hall, Qingkuang Pavilion, and Wenchang Pavilion. They adopt a garden-within-a-garden layout, borrowing the scenery of Jianjiang River and Zhushan Mountain, and integrating the three-carving technique of Huizhou folk houses and the characteristics of garden art. Scholars such as Shen Deqian and Yuan Mei gave lectures here in the Qing Dynasty. The Cao family produced a total of 53 Jinshi and people in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
