About Zhakou White Pagoda
The Gate White Pagoda is located on the Baita Ridge at the gate of the Qiantang River in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It was built at the end of the Wuyue Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It was built for Wuyue King Qian Hongzuo to worship the River God. It is entirely made of white stone carvings. It is a carved tower imitating a wooden pavilion. It has an octagonal plane, a total of nine floors, and is about 15 meters high. It is divided into layers layer by layer, with a tall and beautiful outline. The base of the pagoda is engraved with mountain peaks and wave patterns to symbolize the "nine mountains and eight seas". A Xumizuo is erected on it, and Buddhist scriptures are engraved on the waist. The body of the pagoda is embossed with Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and sutra stories.
