About Yunlin Temple
Yunlin Temple, commonly known as the West Temple, is located at No. 24, Cultural Relics Lane, Yunlin Road, Yanggao County, Datong City, Shanxi Province. It was built in the Ming Dynasty and was originally named Huayan Temple. It was renamed Yunlin Temple in the late Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of 12,000 square meters and faces south. There are two existing courtyards at the front and back. In the front is the Diamond Hall (mountain gate), the second floor of bells and drums, in the middle is the Heavenly King Hall and the left and right wing rooms, and finally the Mahavira Hall. The main hall is a single-eaves verandah-roofed building with five bays in width, four bays in depth and eight rafters. It adopts a gold box and bucket bottom trough variant structure, and uses the method of shifting and reducing columns to highlight the position of the Buddhist altar.
