About Foshan Ancestral Temple
Foshan Ancestral Temple, also known as "Beidi Temple" and "Lingying Temple", is located at No. 21 Zumiao Road, Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Dedicated to the Taoist God Zhenwu Xuantian, it was built in the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078~1085). It was the product of the worship of the Northern Emperor brought by the Central Plains people when they moved south to Lingnan. It was rebuilt in the fifth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1372). By the early Qing Dynasty, it gradually became a temple building with a complete system, rigorous structure and strong local characteristics. The Foshan Ancestral Temple complex covers an area of 3,500 square meters and consists of Wanfu Terrace, Lingying Archway, Jinxiang Pool, Bell and Drum Tower, Sanmen, Front Hall, Main Hall, Qingzhen Tower and other buildings arranged on the north-south central axis.
