About Master Hongyi Memorial Hall

Master Hongyi Memorial Hall is located in the Zunshengyuan of Kaiyuan Temple at No. 176 West Street, Licheng District, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. It is the memorial place where Master Hongyi (Li Shutong, 1880-1942), one of the pioneers of my country’s New Culture Movement and a modern eminent monk, lived in his later years. The museum displays historical materials, photos, writings, calligraphy and other precious cultural relics from his last 14 years in Quan, systematically presenting his "twenty articles that shocked the world" artistic achievements - as the first person to introduce Western music, "Farewell Song" is sung to this day; his calligraphy attainments reached the realm of "sincerity and perfection"; he also pioneered the teaching of human body sketching in the Chinese painting circle.
