About tapok temple
Tapo Temple is located at No. 2 Jingguo Street, Funing Road, within the jurisdiction of Zumiao Street. It was originally the site of the Tapogang Sutra Hall where monk Dabi Yashe from the Gubin State "Jie Mao Lectured" in the second year of Long'an in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (398). In the second year of Zhenguan of the Tang Dynasty (628), villagers excavated three bronze Buddhas and stone tablets here, and Jihua Township was renamed "Foshan". This place has thus become a historical witness to the origin of Foshan’s city name. The modern Tapo Temple Fair has been resumed since 2016. Tapo Temple was built after the Tang Dynasty. In the 24th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1391), the temple was destroyed during a major demolition.
