About Ningpo Customs Site Museum
Zhejiang Customs Museum is located at No. 542, Zhongma Road, Jiangbei District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. Founded in 1976, it is a provincial cultural relics protection unit and a state-owned cultural relics system museum in Zhejiang Province. Its main building is a three-story office structure with a brick verandah, with a construction area of about 1,067 square meters. It uses blue bricks with Western-style columns, doors and windows and other decorations, integrating Chinese and Western architectural styles. It is an important witness to the history of Ningbo’s modern customs. The museum was formerly known as the Zhejiang Customs House established in the 24th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1685). It was one of the four major customs offices in early China. After the Opium War, the nature of customs gradually transformed into a semi-colonial institution.
