About Buddha Cave

A Buddhist cave refers to a cave temple building dug along the mountain wall, with Buddha statues carved inside and Buddhist-themed murals painted inside. Famous Buddhist caves in China are located in Dunhuang, Longmen, Yungang and other places. "Fa Yuan Zhu Lin" records that Upasgna, a monk from Northern India, participated in the construction of Buddhist caves. Types include Buddhist ritual caves and practice caves. The main cave shapes include a dome-topped hall cave, a Zen cave, and a central pillar cave. Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes were first excavated in the second year of Jianyuan (366) of the former Qin Dynasty. There are 735 existing caves divided into north and south areas. The 243 caves in the north area are places for monks to practice. The Longmen Grottoes were first built during the period of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty.
