About Jiayuguan

The Jiayuguan Cultural Heritage Scenic Area in Jiayuguan City, often referred to as the Jiayuguan Cultural Heritage Scenic Area, is a tourist attraction located within the jurisdiction of Yuquan Town, Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province, covering an area of 4,523.36 square meters. Founded in the fifth year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1372), Jiayuguan is the westernmost point of China’s Ming Great Wall and was completed in the eighteenth year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1539). It is known as “the First Mighty Pass Under Heaven,” “a monumental defense system for both China and foreign countries,” “the key to Western Gansu,” and “the throat of the Silk Road.” The Jiayuguan Cultural Heritage Scenic Area comprises three major areas: Jiayuguan Fortress, the Hanging Wall Great Wall, and the First Dun in the World.
