About Baodu Zhai
Baodu Zhai is located 2 kilometers west of Luquan District in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, on the western slopes of Mount Lianhua. It is a scenic area that combines historical and cultural heritage with stunning natural landscapes, covering an area of 660 mu and situated at an elevation of 580 meters. The site is renowned as “the World’s Most Remarkable Fortress” and “Baodu’s Blessed Land.” In ancient times, Baodu Zhai was known as “Bishan.” The character “Bishi” consists of a grass radical combined with the radical for “lowly,” suggesting concealment. During the rebellion led by Ge Rong in the Northern Wei Dynasty, local residents took refuge in the mountains to farm, but the steep terrain made it difficult for large cattle to climb. They could only bring their young calves up the mountain to raise them. Since then, Mount Bishi has been known as Baodu Mountain.
