About Beihai Tunnel
The Beihai Tunnel is located between Ren'ai Village and Meishi Village on the Matsu Islands. It is a well-shaped trail dug by the Taiwanese military in 1968 to shelter from wind waves and defend against shelling. It has now been transformed into a tourist attraction. The tunnel is 18 meters high, 10 meters wide, 700 meters long, and 640 meters long. The well-shaped trail can accommodate hundreds of landing craft. The water level is about 4 meters at low tide and can rise to 8 meters at high tide. Visitors can walk around the 700-meter trail built on the rock wall, which takes about 30 minutes. The reflection on the water surface of the rock wall forms a visually dislocated landscape. The existing gunpowder holes drilled by air compressors prove the difficulty of construction. There is a wooden paddle boat tour in the tunnel.
