About Tianmen Cave

Tianmen Cave is located on the main peak of Tianmen Mountain, a national 5A-level scenic spot in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. It is the highest natural through-mountain cave in the world. In 263 AD, a cave opened in the cliff of Songliang Mountain to form Tianmen Cave. Sun Xiu, King of Wu, changed the name of the mountain to Tianmen Mountain and established Tianmen County. Tianmen Cave crosses north and south. The gate is 131.5 meters high, 57 meters wide and 60 meters deep. It rises from the ground and reaches the sky, just like a portal to the sky. Tianmen Mountain has experienced many orogenic movements in geological history. The carbonate rock formation has been eroded to form a karst platform landform. Tianmen Cave is one of the typical landscapes.
