About Chongmiao Baosheng Jianlao Pagoda

Chongmiao Baosheng Jianlao Tower is located at the east foot of Wushi Mountain in Gulou District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province (about 60 meters north of the east gate of Dayang Jingdian (Wushan Branch), Bayiqi North Road). The tower is built of granite, which turns black after weathering, so it is commonly known as "Wu Tower". In the sixth year of Tianfu in the Later Jin Dynasty (941), Wang Yanxi, the king of Fujian, proclaimed himself emperor. He prayed for himself, his family and his ministers, and built this pagoda at the former site of Zhenyuan Wugou Jingguang Pagoda in Tang Dynasty. The original plan was to build nine floors, but in the ninth year of Tianfu (944), Yanxi was killed in a subordinate coup, and only seven floors were built. The Chongmiao Baosheng Tower is octagonal, has seven eaves, is 35 meters high, and is built of granite.
