About Iron Pagoda
The Iron Tower is located in Shunhe Hui District, Kaifeng City, Henan Province. It was built in 1049 AD and is known as the "No. 1 Tower in the World". The pagoda is 55.08 meters high and has 13 octagonal floors. It is the tallest, oldest and best-preserved glazed brick pagoda in China. Therefore, the site was once called Kaibao Temple, also known as "Kaibao Temple Pagoda"; and because the whole body is covered with brown glazed bricks, it looks like cast iron, so it has been called "Iron Pagoda" by the people since the Yuan Dynasty. The overall shape of the tower is beautiful and straight, and the glazed components are bright and lustrous. The entire tower body decreases layer by layer from bottom to top, forming a natural taper, showing the strong and powerful outline characteristics of Song Dynasty pagodas. The tower body uses many structural bricks.
