About Shouyimen
Shouyi Gate, located in Wuyi Square in Taiyuan City, originated from Chengen Gate and was one of the two south gates built in the early Ming Dynasty to expand Taiyuan City. After the victory of the Revolution of 1911, Chengenmen was renamed Shouyimen. During the Liberation War, Shouyi Gate was damaged by artillery fire. It was demolished in the early days of the founding of New China, and the May Day Square was built on the original site in 1951. In May 2020, Taiyuan City announced the May Day Square renovation design plan and planned to rebuild Shouyi Gate. The project started in September of the same year. In November 2021, the Shouyi Gate reconstruction project was completed and officially unveiled. Shouyi Gate is an antique building, covering an area of 1,800 square meters, 60 meters long, 32.9 meters wide and 39.25 meters high.
