About Datong Guanyin Hall
Datong Guanyin Hall is located about 1.3 kilometers northwest of Xiaozhan Village, Majunying Township, southern suburb of Datong City, Shanxi Province. It covers an area of about 2,300 square meters and is an ancient architectural relic from the Qing Dynasty. Datong Guanyin Hall was built in the sixth year of Chongxi in the Liao Dynasty (1037); it was later destroyed by war; it was rebuilt in the eighth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1651); and it was repaired many times thereafter. Datong Guanyin Hall faces south and has a three-courtyard layout. Along the central axis are a stage, waist gate, Guanyin Hall, and Sanzhen Hall. On both sides are a bell tower, a drum tower, a stele pavilion, and a mountain gate. The mountain gate is located in the southeast corner of the temple, with a glazed three-dragon wall opposite it.
