About Wenguang Pagoda
Wenguang Pagoda is located on the east side of Zhonghua Road, Chaoyang District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province. It is also known as the "Thousand Buddha Pagoda" because of the thousands of Buddha statues displayed inside. It was built in the first year of Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty (1131). The lion in front of the pagoda was originally the remains of Chaoyang County Cultural Temple and was moved here in 1958. In 1981, the stone lions of Miancheng Academy were moved to both sides of the tower gate. The tower is octagonal in plan and faces south. It is a masonry structure with a pavilion and a gallery. It is 42.62 meters high and hollow inside. It has eight sides and seven floors. There are 122 steps of spiral stone stairs in the tower, and a red gourd is placed at the end of the tower.
