About Baoshan Temple
Baoshan Zen Temple is located in Baoshanwu, Jinting Town, Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was built in the second year of Liang Datong in the Southern Dynasties (536) and was originally named Fuyuan Temple. In the ninth year of Shangyuan of the Tang Dynasty (682), Emperor Gaozong Li Zhi named Xianqing Zen Temple. Later, because it was located in Baoshan Mountain, Taihu Lake, Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty named it Baoshan Temple. After the expansion by Master Shenhao in the Tang Dynasty, there were 1,048 monk rooms. They were demolished during the Zhenghe period of the Song Dynasty and rebuilt during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. During the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, the abbot Shanxiao was given a royal pen "respecting the Buddha" stele, which is now in the Yumo Pavilion of Shigong Mountain.
