About Liye Ancient City
The ruins of the ancient city of Liye are located in Liye Town, Longshan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province. The ancient city of Liye was originally the county seat of Qianling County under the jurisdiction of Qianzhong County of Chu State during the Warring States Period. The Qin Dynasty changed "Qianzhong County" to "Dongting County", and the seat of Qianling County remained unchanged. It was destroyed at the end of the Qin Dynasty and abandoned at the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty. The ancient city of Liye was built next to the river. Inside the site, there is a moat surrounding the north, west and south sides of the ancient city. The west moat is 168 meters long and about 7 to 11 meters wide. The city wall is more than 20 meters thick and seven to eight meters high, and is made of rammed clay.
