About Copper Column of Xizhou
Xizhou Bronze Pillars are located in the "Wangcun Xiangxi Folk Customs and Scenery Museum" in Furong Town, Yongshun County, Hunan Province. Because this area was called Xiaxizhou in ancient times, the copper pillars were named "Xizhou Bronze Pillars". It was built in the fifth year of Tianfu in the Later Jin Dynasty (940). The Xizhou copper pillar is round at the bottom and octagonal at the top. Each square is 15 centimeters wide and 39 centimeters in diameter. Except for the damage on the top, it is well preserved. More than 2,600 words of inscriptions are engraved on the eight faces of the column. When the Xizhou bronze pillars were erected, they had both monumental and practical political functions. Their special shapes and rich inscriptions are of great significance to the study of ancient culture and ethnic groups in western Hunan.
